FAQs

How often do I need to have a consultation?

New patients will have an initial consultation, followed by a follow-up appointment two weeks later. Regular follow-ups every 3-4 weeks are then required to monitor progress and adjust the treatment plan as needed.

What can I expect during my first visit?

The initial consultation will last 60-80 minutes. During this time, Dr Carleta will conduct a comprehensive health assessment. She will ask a series of questions about your medical history to get a better understantding of your health status. She may explore factors such as genetics, diet and lifestyle, living and working environment, and more. Come prepared with supporting lab, scans and medical reports, prescriptions, food journals, etc. A physical exam, pulse and tongue analyses may also be performend to identify any underlying issues and potential treatment options.

In most cases you’ll have a chance to get started with your first treatment right away if you would like to, but there is no obligation to do so.

What can I expect from my first Acupuncture treatment?

First, we talk you through the procedure and give you control at every step. We ensure your safety and comfort as you get positioned and ready for treatment.  We exclusively use pre-sterilized, single-use, disposable needles, adhering to strict hygiene practices at all times. Your doctor will place the needles after determining the precise locations that will benefit most from the treatment. Occasionally the needles may be gently lifted and twirled to achive the maximum desired theapeutic effect. The needles will remain in place for 30 minutes while you relax, and you might even take a nap.

Infrared lamps will be placed over specific areas to enhance blood flow and cellular repair. We will monitor your comfort and any sensations you may experience. If you need assistance, you can use a buzzer to call the practitioner, who will make adjustments to ensure a positive experience.

Do I need to remove my clothes during Acupuncture?

Depending on what you are wearing and the area being treated we may ask you to remove some clothing. Rest assured, your privacy will be our top priority. Loose clothes are usually easier for us to work around. Your comfort during the session is paramount, so if you prefer not to remove clothing (for religious reasons or otherwise), please inform us, and we’ll accommodate accordingly.

Am I allowed to keep my valuables with me?

You have the option of using a safe lock-up for your handbag or any other personal possessions.

You are welcome to keep your phone with you for music or in case of emergencies – just leave it on silent and avoid using it during your treatment as much as possible. This is an opportunity to unplug and really let go!

Using the phone for recording audio or video without consent is strictly prohibited.

How many treatments will I need?

One of the fundamental aspects of Chinese Medicine is that each person is a unique and, as such, each person’s treatment will be individualized. The standard course of Acupuncture treatments is typically 12 sessions, but this can vary significantly depending on factors such as the severity of the condition, age, and presence of comorbidities. Some patients may experience rapid recovery, requiring only 3-4 sessions, while others may need longer treatment periods, especially in cases of chronic conditions that have persisted for decades.

Will I need to undergo any further testing?

Depending on your specific health concern, Dr Carleta may recomend additional testing. For example, most gastrointestinal patients will be referred for further testing to evaluate their intestinal microbiome, parasitology, GIT functional markers, breath test for SIBO and H. pylori (if necessary). If you haven’t had your bloods tested in the last 6-12 months, you’ll get a referral for a quick blood check.

Can I use my private health insurance?

Yes. If you have extras cover you can claim your treatment through your health fund. All you need to pay is the gap. Please bring your health insurance card to be put through HICAPS. Please note that health rebates apply only to Acupuncture services.

Can I use Medicare for these services?

No.

What is the cancellation policy?

It is recommended that you attend your appointments as scheduled. This is because missed appointments interfere with treatment outcomes and slow down results.

We understand that unforeseen circumstances arise from time to time that may affect your ability to attend your scheduled appointment.  Should this occur, please provide at least 24 hours notice.

Missed appointments not only impede your own progress but also deprive others of the opportunity for treatment. Therefore, we kindly request that you provide ample notice if you need to reschedule or cancel.

Please note: a late cancellation or rescheduling fee of $50 will apply if a cancellation or rescheduling occurs with less than 24 hours notice (during trading hours) or on the day of your appointment, and we are unable to fill the vacated slot from our waiting list.

A full fee cancellation cost will apply for no show appointments. This fee must be paid before booking your next appointment and is not claimable from health funds.

If an appointment is cancelled more than twice consecutively, a prepayment equivalent to your consultation fee will be required to secure your next appointment.
